Hello there!

Bom dia! Welcome to my professional page.

My name is Francisco and I am a  Marine Ecologist / Biologist from Portugal.

My academic background has always been linked to the Ocean. I completed my BSc in Biology (major in Marine Biology) in 2015, and went on to defend my MSc in Marine Ecology in 2017.  It was during my MSc thesis that I was able to have my first (real) experience in Academia. During that year, I learned a lot regarding experimental marine biology - working with gammarid amphipods and glass eels - and it was there that my interest in research featuring the impacts of marine climate change peaked.

In late 2023 I submitted my PhD dissertation for the Doctoral Program in Biology: Marine Biology and Aquaculture of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, currently awaiting its public defence! During these past four years, I've been studying  how marine climate change drivers might impact cephalopod species, using data from experimental biology and ecological modelling.

At the same time, since my MSc days I've been a researcher at the Centre for Marine and Environmental Sciences (MARE-UL), hosted at the Laboratório Marítimo da Guia (LMG), Cascais, Portugal. During these years, I've been able to work alongside many excellent and eager Researchers on diverse and exciting projects, including a myriad of marine species - from seagrasses to ascideans, sharks and octopuses - having gained considerable insight into marine species maintenance, their behaviour and physiology,  and participating in several interesting projects.

Coming early December 2023, I will be joining the Marine and Environmental Research Association (AIMM) as a Senior Researcher, in a new and exciting  project featuring cetaceans.
